Naples Middle High School NJROTC Cadets Participate in WWII Remembrance Ceremony in San Pietro Infine

SAN PIETRO INFINE, Italy — Cadets from Naples Middle High School’s Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) program were invited to take part in the 82nd anniversary remembrance of the Battle of San Pietro Infine, a pivotal World War II engagement, during a ceremony honoring those who fought and sacrificed during the conflict.

The cadets joined local Italian officials, representatives from U.S. Army Forces Europe, the mayor of San Pietro Infine and World War II survivors for the commemorative event. The ceremony served as both a tribute to the fallen and an opportunity to educate younger generations about the historical significance of the battle and the enduring alliance between Italy and the United States.

During the event, NMHS cadets addressed attendees in both English and Italian, reflecting the international nature of the remembrance and the shared history between the two nations. Their participation highlighted the role of student leadership programs in preserving historical memory and fostering cross-cultural understanding.

Following the ceremony, the cadets shared a luncheon with Mayor Antonio Vacca, providing an opportunity for dialogue about the battle’s legacy and the importance of remembrance. The gathering allowed students to engage directly with local leaders and deepen their understanding of the community’s historical connection to World War II.

Cadet Arianna Otis said the experience was a powerful reminder of the global impact of the war.
“It was a reminder of how many people from all over the world sacrificed their lives to protect what they believe,” Otis said.

The Battle of San Pietro Infine, fought in December 1943, remains a symbol of cooperation and sacrifice among Allied forces. The annual remembrance reinforces the strong bond between the Italian people and the U.S. military while ensuring the lessons of history continue to be passed on.

By participating in the ceremony, NMHS NJROTC cadets helped honor those who served while gaining a deeper appreciation for the responsibilities of citizenship, leadership and remembrance—values central to the NJROTC mission and to preserving the legacy of World War II.
